What is the scope of the project?

The project developer will install about 149 turbines, for generating approximately 250 MW of renewable energy, and underground and overhead electrical collection lines and other ancillary facilities such as turbine access roads and a substation. The environmental assessment study area for the project is approximately 113,000 hectares in size. The land area required for the project’s infrastructure would be approximately 80 to 120 hectares – less than 1% of the study area on land leased from landowners.

How much electricity would this wind farm produce?

Over 600 giga-watt-hours per year – enough to power approximately 80,000 houses.

What is the project schedule?
  • Public consultation – ongoing since 2002
  • Environmental data collection – ongoing since 2005
  • Finalization of Environmental Screening Report – first quarter 2008

If the project is approved:

  • Begin detailed engineering – Late 2008
  • Begin construction of access roads – Fall 2009
  • Begin installation of wind turbines – Spring 2010
  • Start-up and commissioning – Summer 2010
  • Commercial operation – Late 2010
If Brookfield Renewable Power secures a Power Purchase Agreement with the Ontario Power Authority, what happens after the 20-year contract Ontario expires?

At that point, Brookfield Renewable Power could have the contract renewed, re-submit the project under another government Request for Proposals, or sell electricity on the spot market.
