Who is Brookfield Renewable Power?

Brookfield Renewable Power manages the power generating and marketing operations of Brookfield Asset Management, a global asset manager focused on property, power and other infrastructure assets.  Building on 100 years of experience, Brookfield Renewable Power is a leading producer and developer of primarily renewable power, using water and wind resources, with a growing portfolio of generating assets. Currently, operations include over 160 generating facilities that provide energy to markets in North America and Brazil. The management philosophy is guided by a core set of values dedicated to protection and enhancement of the environment, health and safety of employees and the public, and a commitment to local communities.

Why is Brookfield Renewable Power developing more wind power?

Wind power is a rapidly growing energy technology in the world because it is an emission-free, renewable resource. Wind power projects will expand Brookfield Renewable Power's portfolio, further strengthening its commitment to the renewable power sector and Ontario.

Brookfield Renewable Power has been investing in the development of wind energy projects since 2001, and currently operates the largest wind farm in Canada.

What assets and experience does Brookfield Renewable Power have with wind power?

The company completed the Prince Wind Farm in November 2006. It is a 189-megawatt, $400-million wind project in Northern Ontario that can provide enough electricity to power about 60,000 homes annually. This two-phased project is comprised of 126 wind turbines and is the largest wind farm in Canada. After winning an RFP, and through open communications with the residents of the surrounding community, Brookfield Renewable Power received full support throughout the development and construction of this project.

Brookfield Renewable Power is also developing a number of other wind power projects in Canada and the US.
