Who is Brookfield Renewable Power?

Wholly-owned by Brookfield Asset Management, we are a leading producer and developer of primarily renewable power, using water and wind resources, with a growing portfolio of generating assets. Currently, operations include over 160 generating facilities that provide energy to markets in North America and Brazil. Our management philosophy is guided by a core set of values dedicated to protection and enhancement of the environment, health and safety of employees and the public, and a commitment to local communities. Over the last few years, the company has invested over $1 billion in power-generating facilities in Ontario.

Why is Brookfield Renewable Power developing more wind power?

Brookfield has been working in the wind industry since 2000. Wind power is a rapidly growing energy technology in the world because it is an emission-free, renewable resource. Wind power projects will expand our portfolio, and further strengthen our commitment to the renewable power sector and Ontario.

What assets and experience does Brookfield Renewable Power have with wind power?

We completed the Prince Wind Farm in November 2006. It is a 189-megawatt, $400-million wind project in Northern Ontario that can provide enough electricity to power about 60,000 homes annually. This two-phased project is comprised of 126 wind turbines and is one of the largest wind farms in Canada. After winning two RFPs, and through open communications with the residents of the surrounding community, Brookfield Renewable Power received full support throughout the development and construction of this project. Click Prince Wind Farm for more information.

We are also developing a number of other wind power projects in Canada and the US.
